TRIBUTE TO JERRY GARCIA
FEATURING MELVIN SEALS

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- The Jerry Garcia Band featuring Melvin Seals and the Commander Cody Band will rock the stage 8p.m., Monday, August 20th at the Music Pier, Boardwalk & Moorlyn Terrace. The event has been billed as a jammin’ dance party.

Melvin Seals has had a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years, playing with the likes of Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels, and Elvin Bishop. Most notably, Melvin has played with Jerry Garcia as the Hammond B-3 player in the Jerry Garcia Band for 15 years.

Adding Melvin’s rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing, it’s no wonder Jerry nicknamed him "Master of the Universe."

Melvin formed the Jerry Garcia Band just one year after Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995. After touring America steadily from late 1996 through 1997, the Jerry Garcia Band released a live CD, “Welcome To Our World” in 1998 on The House Of Blues Records label. They have touring extensively ever since to keep the music alive, as Keepers Of The Flame. 

In the 60's, Commander Cody brought longhair country/rockabilly music to San Francisco and the rest of the civilized world. In those early days, Commander Cody played as the house band for Linda Ronstadt, Doug Kershaw, Gene Vincent and Emmylou Harris.

Since then the Commander Cody Band has headlined clubs and was signed to several record labels including Paramount Records and Warner Brothers. Their album, Deep in the Heart of Texas, was featured by Rolling Stone Magazine in their best 100 albums of all time.

The Jerry Garcia Band is part of the ongoing Boardwalk Concert Series in Ocean City. Other performances in the series are Ralph’s World, a children’s band on August 27th
