An Evening With Paul Muldoon
PULITZER PRIZE WINNING POET
TO READ AT O.C. ARTS CENTER

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- Pulitzer Prize Winning Poet, Paul Muldoon, will read from his work at the Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave., 7 p.m., Fri., June 22.
A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

The program is made possible by a grant from the Ocean City Free Public Library.

Born in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, Muldoon is considered one of the greatest English language poets to emerge on the literary scene in the last 60 years. From 1973 to 1986, he worked in Belfast as a radio and television producer for the British Broadcasting Corp. Since 1987, he has lived in the United States where he is professor in the Humanities at Princeton University.

Between 1999 and 2004, Muldoon was Professor of Poetry at Oxford University in England. He has written over ten collections of poetry. His 2002 Book, Moy Sand and Gravel, won the Pulitzer Prize.

A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Muldoon was presented an American Academy of Arts and Letters award in literature for 1996. Other recent awards include the 1994 T.S. Eliot Prize, the 1997 Irish Times Poetry Prize, the 2003 Griffin International Prize for Excellence in Poetry, the 2004 American Ireland Fund Literary Award and the 2004 Shakespeare Prize.

He has been described by the Times Literary Supplement as “the most significant English-language poet born since World War 11.”

It has been written that Muldoon’s poems will often combine classical forms with the most common street slang, or tackle metaphysical questions with the language of advertising slogans and pop records.

Muldoon is the third Pulitzer winner to read at the Center in recent years. He follows Stephen Dunn and John Ashbery, two of the country’s most distinguished poets.

Major poet, A.R. Ammons, a two time National Book Award winner and recipient of the National Book Critic’s Circle Award, appeared three times at the Center, once in a joint reading with Ashbery. It was the only time the two literary giants read together.

Tickets are $5 available at the Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave. and City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave. Call (609)525-9300 or (609) 399-7628 for information.
